COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS NOT PROBLEMS : Each day you get up thinking, “Perhaps today will be better”, as we all have experienced rough times in our lives. By shifting the mind-sets around the challenging times is the only real way it will make difference. How do you expect to see sunshine, if all you choose to see are the black clouds. Make a decision that you will find at least one thing that you can feel blessed about,no matter what the day entails.
Here’s a short story that help you to understand how you should always try to count your blessings not problems. – THE BLACK DOT
“One day a professor came into the class and suggested a surprise test. He immediately handed out the exercise sheet, which, as usual, faced down with the text. Then he asked his students to turn on their side and begin. To everyone’s surprise, there were no questions – just a black dot in the middle of the page. Now the professor explained the following:
“I would ask you to write down what you see there.” The students were confused but started their work. “
“At the end of the lesson, the professor gathered all the answers and began reading them aloud. All students without exception had described the black point – its position in the middle of the sheet, its position in space, its size relation to the paper, etc.
Now the professor smiled and said:
“I wanted to give you something to think about. Nobody wrote anything on the white part of the paper. Everyone focused on the black point – and the same thing happens in our lives. We were given white paper to use and enjoy, but we always focus on the dark spots.
Our life is a gift that we should cherish with love and care and there is actually always a reason to celebrate – nature is renewed every day, our friends, our family, the work that gives us an existence, the wonders that we see everyday …….
But we are often only focused on the dark spots – the health problems, lack of money, complicated relationship with a family member, disappointment with a friend, expectations, etc.
The dark spots are very small compared to anything we have in our life, but they are the ones that occupy and cloud our minds.
Notice the black dots, but direct your attention more to the entire white paper and thus to the possibilities and happy moments in your life and share them with other people!
Stop focusing on black dot .
- Recognize the white (the good things) that’s around the black dot (whatever problem you are facing). Can you do that?
- Celebrate the white (the good things) vs. taking it for granted (which many of us do).
- See the black dot (the problem) as it is. Don’t overtly magnify its presence, but don’t ignore it either.
- Then… celebrate the black dot (the problem) too. Negative things are as important as the positive experiences in living a great life. What positives can you see in your black dot? Do you acknowledge its role in your life? What can you learn from it?
